Youth Literacy, Job Training Funds Available

Partners Foundation grants have transformed classrooms across the Americas. Students in Yaxcabá, Mexico received textbooks. Weekend tutoring in Peru helped struggling readers advance. Both succeeded through Partners of the Americas funding.
Two Foundation opportunities remain open until June 2. The Pixote Literacy Fund offers up to $5,000 for faith-based literacy programs serving youth 6-16. The Laschober Endowment provides up to $1,000 for youth education and microenterprise projects.
Past recipients proved effectiveness. La Paz-Utah chapters trained teachers across 11 Bolivian communities. São Paulo volunteers established a Reading Technology lab serving five communities. Workshops by the chapter in the Brazilian state of Paraíba prepared youth for employment with municipal backing.
“Such literacy programs became pathways to life-changing opportunity,” said Steve Murphy, founder of Pixote. A member of the Partners Foundation Board since 2003, Steve is a former executive with the Inter-American Development Bank and Paramount Pictures. He served as regional director for the Americas at the Peace Corps under President George W. Bush and lives in Seattle, Washington.
