Foundation Board Chair (Georgia Chapter)

Matthew Lee, Jr., serves as the Chair of the Partners of the Americas Foundation Board. Mr. Lee is a long-time Partners member, dating back to 1989. He has served as President, Vice President, Treasurer and Board Member of the Georgia Partners for multiple terms. Mr. Lee is a member of Partners of the Americas/Kellogg Fellowship in International Development Group VIII, has served on the International Board of Directors and contributes to the organization at the Ambassador Level. Professionally, Mr. Lee was a Solutions & Services Executive and the resident Healthcare Specialist in the Atlanta area for the Xerox Corporation’s Southeast Operation. During his time at Xerox, Mr. Lee earned numerous President’s Club and Top Performer awards. He retired after a 32 1/2 year career with Xerox Corporation. Mr. Lee attended the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling the globe, volunteering, and staying fit.

Ms. Maria Gilda Battagliese is the president of the Uruguay Chapter, with its counterpart in Minnesota. She works at the Binational Center in Uruguay, Alianza Cultural Uruguay – EEUU, as a teacher educator, mentor, and coordinator of a country-wide program. Ms. Battagliese has been involved with Partners since 2008 when she was elected as a Teacher in Residence to travel to Minnesota to exchange language, culture, and teaching techniques. At Partners, she has worked on projects involving different committees in both Chapters. Ms. Battagliese participated in conventions, youth engagement workshops, and is also a member of the iEARN network. In past years, she served as vice president of the Uruguayan affiliate of TESOL (Urutesol). She holds a teaching degree from the Alianza in collaboration with the University of Maryland in Baltimore County. Ms. Battagliese also holds a postgraduate degree specializing in Virtual Learning Environments. She collaborated in Massive Open Online Courses with the University of Oregon and holds certificates in leadership and project management.

Juan Pablo González is an experienced executive, advisor, and board member with over three decades working at the intersection of strategy and human capital. An expert in workforce topics, he combines his understanding of business and organization strategy with deep expertise in human capital disciplines.  He is a recognized speaker and author, co-writing two books (“Shockproof – How to Hardwire Your Business for Lasting Success” and “The Talent Management Handbook”), and his insights are frequently sought in the business press, highlighting his deep understanding of strategy and talent management.  Juan Pablo has served as a Senior Partner, industry sector, and practice leader for several prominent professional services firms, including Korn Ferry, EY, Mercer, Axiom Consulting Partners, and RSM, working closely with the employees, leaders and boards of public, private and nonprofit organizations. As a Concordia Senior Advisor and as a member of the International Board of Partners of the Americas, Juan Pablo engages in important global social and economic change initiatives. His involvement extends to local community service, including board positions with Northern Virginia Family Service and serving as an appointed member of the Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee of Fairfax County Public Schools, (10th largest school district in the US), advising on aligning and improving curriculum and resources to better meet the needs of students, families, and employers. Juan Pablo’s academic contributions include guest lecturing at his alma maters – Cornell and Columbia Universities – and serving on the Dean’s Advisory Council of Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Dr. Paula Laschober serves as the Treasurer for both the International Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Laschober has been a member of the Washington chapter of Partners of the Americas since 1989. She currently serves as the Chair of the Education and Social Development Committee and is an Executive Director. She has served in a variety of roles within the chapter since 1989 including the Chair of the Economic Development Committee, Vice President and President. She has also served on the Partners’ Interamerican Board of Directors and has attended more than ten annual international conventions since 1993. Previously, Dr. Laschober received the Kellogg International Fellowship in Community Development and has held the position of Chair of the Education and Social Development Committee.

Senior Advisor for Brazil and Latin America, Stephen’s purpose in life is to build bridges between the peoples of the Americas. Stephen’s career includes executive positions with BankBoston, Paramount Pictures, and the Inter-American Development Bank. During President George H.W. Bush’s administration, he served as Director of Worldnet Television, and under President George W. Bush, he was the Regional Director for the Americas at the Peace Corps. He lived in Brazil for over 20 years as a permanent resident. Currently, Stephen serves as a Senior Advisor at Pacific Northwest Advisors and is the author of three books focused on “odyssey and redemption”: On the Edge: An Odyssey, Havana Odyssey, and Brazilian Odyssey. He has presented in three countries and at over 80 venues across the Americas.

John is the President & CEO at Partners of the Americas. He is a dynamic and strategic servant leader with over 30 years of experience in international community development and humanitarian relief. John is a seasoned expert in building and leveraging partnerships, fostering volunteerism, and promoting locally-led development to drive impactful solutions. He is adept at solving complex problems and fostering consensus in multicultural environments. He is committed to transparent leadership and achieving organizational vision through innovative and collaborative approaches. He has a proven track record in setting tactical direction, managing programs and budgets, and empowering diverse teams within international nonprofit organizations.   John is passionate about community development in Latin America and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador. He brings significant experience as a country and regional director for international nonprofits including Save the Children, World Vision, and Project Concern International since 1996, as well as leading nonprofit organizations as President & CEO since 2012. He has held leadership positions on the Boards of numerous local nonprofits and associations in El Salvador and Central America, providing operational and strategic direction. He coordinated or co-coordinated multiple national and regional networks in Central America in health, water and sanitation, and agriculture/food security.   John received a BSc in Civil Engineering from MIT and a Master’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois / Urbana-Champaign. He is fluent in Spanish and has a working knowledge of French and Portuguese.
