La conferencia virtual What Works 2022 de Partners of the Americas (Partners) comenzó el 28 de marzo de 2022. La conferencia, que tendrá lugar hasta el 31 de marzo, reúne a agentes de cambios de todo el continente americano para asociarse para un crecimiento inclusivo. El programa Educación y Cultura patrocina la conferencia, un proyecto con el apoyo de la Oficina de Asuntos Educativos y Culturales (ECA) del Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos.
El presidente y director ejecutivo de Partners, John McPhail, dio la bienvenida a todos y los invitó a continuar trabajando juntos para lograr un crecimiento inclusivo.
“Este concepto de alianzas que reúne la combinación adecuada de actores, voluntarios, sociedad civil, profesionales del desarrollo, instituciones de educación superior, grupos de expertos, gobiernos y empresas es esencial para abordar y resolver los desafíos globales,” dijo John McPhail.
Durante la primera presentación, las ponentes Juliana Araujo, Vicepresidente de Partners, Gestión de Marketing y Ciudadanía Global, y Amy Storrow, USDOS Representante de la Oficina de Asuntos del Hemisferio Occidental (WHA), expresaron la importancia de continuar conectándose con socios para el desarrollo sostenible de comunidades. Explicaron las actividades del Programa de Educación y Cultura de los Socios, y cómo se alinean mutuamente con las prioridades y objetivos de la ECA y la WHA para fortalecer las relaciones interamericanas mediante la construcción de alianzas diversas, equitativas e inclusivas.
Las ponentes también señalaron la importancia vital de las alianzas para lograr los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio de la ONU. Los programas y proyectos de Partners con ECA y WHA durante y después de la pandemia han demostrado las nuevas estrategias para el crecimiento social, inclusivo y equitativo dentro del hemisferio occidental y, por lo tanto, ayudan a lograr un gran impacto en el desarrollo social.
Después de esto, los panelistas que representan a cada una de las tres Unidades programáticas de Partners: la Unidad de Desarrollo Económico y Salud (EDH), la Unidad de Protección Infantil (CPU) y la Unidad de Educación y Ciudadanía Global (EGC), así como la Oficina de País de Partners en Colombia , habló sobre los avances y compromisos de los socios en el campo del desarrollo internacional. Sara Taylor, Carmen Peña, Michael Moscarelli y Juliana Araujo exploraron este tema con McPhail.
En la segunda sesión, Elcior Santana, profesor del Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Georgetown, habló sobre temas relacionados con el desarrollo internacional y cómo los Millenial Challenges están impulsando el desarrollo desde la perspectiva de la ONU, el BID, el Banco Mundial y la academia. Santana reconoció la importancia de lograr el desarrollo a través de proyectos sostenibles y duraderos.
En la última sesión, Nelson del Rio Jr, CEO y Co-Fundador de Prosperity of the Commons International, y Zachary Schlosser, Director General de Desarrollo de Capacidades en Prosperity of the Commons International, analizaron por qué necesitamos adoptar un enfoque centrado en las personas para desarrollo económico e internacional. Esta fue una sesión muy participativa y dinámica entre los miembros de Partners of the Americas.

What Works 2022: Partnering for Inclusive Growth
Virtual Conference Day 1
Partners of the Americas’ (Partners) What Works 2022 Virtual Conference kicked off on March 28, 2022. Occurring until March 31, the conference brings together change-makers from across the Americas to partner for inclusive growth. The Education and Culture program is sponsoring the conference, a project with support from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State.
Partners President & CEO John McPhail welcomed everyone and invited them to continue working together to achieve inclusive growth.
This concept of partnerships and bringing the right mix of players together: volunteers, civil society, development professionals, higher education institutions, thinktanks, governments, and businesses, is essential to address and solve global challenges,” McPhail said.
During the first presentation, speakers Juliana Araujo, Partners Vice President, Marketing Management and Global Citizenship, and Amy Storrow, USDOS Representative of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (WHA), expressed the importance of continuing to connect with partners for the sustainable development of communities. They explained the activities of Partners’ Education and Culture Program, and how they mutually align with the priorities and objectives of the ECA and WHA to strengthen inter-American relations by building diverse, equitable, and inclusive partnerships.
The speakers also pointed out the vital importance of partnerships for achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals. Partners’ programs and projects with ECA and WHA during and after the pandemic have demonstrated the new strategies for social, inclusive, and equitable growth within the Western Hemisphere, and therefore help to achieve a great impact on social development.
After this, panelists representing each of Partners’ three programmatic Units — the Economic Development and Health Unit (EDH), the Child Protection Unit (CPU), and the Education and Global Citizenship Unit (EGC) — as well as Partners’ Colombia Country Office, discussed Partners’ progress and commitments in the field of international development. Sara Taylor, Carmen Peña, Michael Moscarelli, and Juliana Araujo explored this topic with McPhail.
In the second session, Elcior Santana, Professor at Georgetown University’s Center for Latin American Studies, spoke on issues related to international development, and how the Millenial Challenges are driving development from the perspective of the UN, IDB, World Bank, and academia. Santana recognized the importance of achieving development through sustainable and lasting projects.
In the last session, Nelson del Rio Jr, CEO and Co-Founder of Prosperity of the Commons International, and Zachary Schlosser, Managing Director of Capacity Development at Prosperity of the Commons International, analyzed why we need to take a human-centric approach to economic and international development. This was a very participatory and dynamic session among Partners of the Americas members.
