Partners to Launch Colombian Peacebuilding Tour

Partners of the Americas is pleased to announce that it will be launching the Colombian University Tour on Peacebuilding Education (Colombian Peacebuilding Tour) in February 2017. Funded by the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, the Colombian Peacebuilding Tour will link U.S. and Colombian universities dedicated to education for peace, peacebuilding and conflict resolution. These university links will build institutional partnerships and strengthen Colombian higher educational institutions’ role in achieving peace through education.

About twenty Colombian Peacebuilding Tour participants, including university presidents and deans, will meet with their U.S. university counterparts both in Washington, D.C. and across the country. Together, they will explore institutional partnerships and exchange methods to promote peace through education and research across fields of study. At the conclusion of the program, participants will develop a plan to implement what they learned at their respective HEIs and solidify partnerships.

After an introduction in Washington, D.C., the Colombian representatives will be divided into two groups and will travel to the Midwest and Northeast United States. Throughout the tours, participants will meet with counterparts in the U.S. to explore relevant initiatives and curricula, exchange related university priorities, and plan institutional and collaborative follow-on activities.

Participants will also engage in cultural activities that explore historic and cultural themes related to peace and conflict, meet community representatives, for the purpose of building mutual understanding between the U.S. and Colombia.

The tour will then return to Washington, D.C., where the representatives will develop their action plans before returning to Colombia.
