#Just1Thing Can Make a Difference

Today is World Environment Day (WED), and this year’s theme is Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care. In honor of the day, the UN is asking for everyone to pledge to doing “one thing less” to help reduce our negative environmental impact. Why? Because, as Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon puts it: "Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference."

At Partners, we take environmental sustainability seriously – we support climate-smart agriculture through our Farmer-to-Farmer program, and our Senior Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) Fellows are leading the fight for clean energy, sustainable urban development, sustainable forestry and climate change adaptation across the Americas.

But what today reminds us is that we can always do more. If we want future generations to be able to experience a healthy and diverse environment, we need to act now, and together. That's why we've decided to join in the fun and commit to #just1thing to make a positive impact on our planet. Check out what we're up to below:

"I save unused napkins at restaurants & take them back to work at Partners of the Americas for others to use!" - Courtney Dunham, Agriculture and Food Security

"I pledge to give up disposable coffee cups!" - Lauren Boetsch, Professional Leadership Exchanges

"I water the plant by my desk every day, helping eliminate air pollutants in the office."        - Gabriela Moore, A Ganar

"I ride my bike to work every day!" - Andi Thomas, Agriculture and Food Security

"We pledge to give up bottled water!" - Summar Lyon and Abraham Cisne, Youth Engagement

"I pledge to keep my office lights off. There's plenty of sunlight that shines through!"          - Kristian Vasquez, Finance and Administration

"I pledge to recycle more!" - Jasmin Herrera, Youth Engagement Intern

“I pledge to advance research and education at Purdue University that improves the energy efficiency and performance of the devices that we depend upon every day. Heat removal from small spaces can dramatically affect large and small systems and can be a game-changer for commercial applications that will use energy more efficiently and sustainably.” - Suresh Garimella, Senior ECPA Fellow
