International Youth Day 2019

In commemoration of International Youth Day, Partners of the Americas is proud to support the United Nations in celebrating the power of youth as agents of change. This year’s theme is “Transforming Education,” centering on making education more inclusive and accessible for all youth.

Since 1964, we have worked to transform youth education by facilitating and advancing study abroad and educational opportunities.

We foster academic exchanges by providing grants through projects such as the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund. 100,000 Strong in the Americas has awarded over 4.8 million in grants to fuel strategic higher education partnerships to increase student exchange and training programs between the Americas. This project has sent more than 2,100 students abroad in 25 countries and 43 U.S. states.

Through 2018, our Youth Ambassadors program facilitated global learning for youth of limited means and/or international experience to build understanding among countries, increase leadership skills, and develop a commitment to service. We facilitated exchanges throughout the Western Hemisphere to close the opportunity gap and ensure these youth are equipped to meaningfully contribute to their communities.

Youth Ambassadors sent 9,102 youth abroad in total. In the coming months, Partners will continue the mission of Youth Ambassadors through our new project, Buenos Aires Provincial Youth Leaders Program.

As well as promoting youth education through global exchanges, we further youth education through the work of our Child Protection Unit. Projects such as Paraguay Okakuaa and Educafuturo have fought to eradicate child labor and protect youth education in Ecuador, Panama, and Paraguay.

Over the past 54 years, Partners has improved and protected the education of thousands of students globally. Read more about our fight to improve education here.
