Local solutions to global climate and energy challenges, one community at a time.
When it comes to addressing the enormous challenge of climate change, we bring the right players to the table, stimulating dialogue across sectors and borders. We send U.S. climate and energy experts from the academic, nonprofit and private sectors to serve as consultants and speakers to local and national stakeholders across Latin America and the Caribbean. By understanding our shared challenges, we empower communities to defend themselves against deadly natural disasters.
From the Amazon to the Andes, Latin America is home to the planet’s greatest biodiversity; however, deforestation and land misuse threaten these fragile ecosystems. As Latin America’s prominence within the world market grows, the region must learn to balance urbanization, food and bioenergy production with proper water, waste, energy and land management. For this reason, our Fellows’ mission is to share research, ideas and best practices in an effort to form holistic and sustainable partnerships between government agencies, businesses, universities and NGOs. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State.
