2019 Year in Review

We have compiled our top 2019 highlights from each of the four units: the Education and Global Citizenship Unit, the Economic Development and Health Unit, the Child Protection Unit, and the Membership Unit. We are excited for all of the life-changing partnerships to come in 2020.

Open Doors 2019 Report Recap

Image 11-22-19 at 10.54 AM_0.jpgIn celebration of International Education Week, the Institute of International Education (IIE) released its annual Open Doors Report on November 18, 2019. The report found that the number of international students in the United States is at an all-time high. Additionally, Latin America and the Caribbean region demonstrated promising growth as a destination for U.S. students studying abroad. 

Open Doors Report 2017 Recap

Yesterday, in celebration of International Education Week #IEW2017, we attended the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Open Doors 2017 briefing at the National Press Club. This year’s Open Doors report shows both improvements and declines in study abroad to and from the United States. Overall, the U.S. saw a 3.4% increase in international students and a 4% increase in U.S. students studying abroad.

$1.2M Awarded to Higher Ed Institutions to Expand Student Exchanges Globally

It’s been a busy month for us at Partners of the Americas as we have had the pleasure of announcing the winners of 38 grants, totalling $1.2 million dollars. The winners were higher education institutions located across 7 continents, 27 countries, and 24 U.S. states. (Next time, Antarctica!).

Sneak Peek: 100,000 Strong in the Americas Capacity Building Workshop

The third major hemispheric 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund workshop will convene in Denver on May 29, coinciding with the newly sworn-in U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Roberta Jacobson traveling to Mexico City to start her new position. With these milestones, 100,000 Strong in the Americas is poised to launch to a new level of engagement and impact.

Partners of the Americas Brings a Half-Century Experience Building Lasting Partnerships to the U.S. and Cuba

It was in 1964, during a time of heightened tensions between the U.S. and Cuba, that Partners of the Americas (Partners) was born.  As part of President Kennedy’s Alliance for Progress, local community organizations – Partners chapters – emerged in countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, and in the majority of the 50 United States.
