Here are our top five must-do’s while in the city!

1. Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel

San Miguel de Allende’s most popular site is this gothic-style pink parish. Built in the 17th century, it was inspired by Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. Be sure to check out the gardens in the front of the parish composed of laurels and roses. It is always surrounded by locals, street vendors and live music that will make you feel at home.

2. Galeria Atotonilco

Just five miles north of the city you will find a beautiful collection of art selected by gallery owner Mayer Shacter. Shacter travels across Mexico to find pieces that represent different Mexican cultures and styles. From pottery to wood carvings, you’re guaranteed to want to choose a piece to take home.

3. Fábrica la Aurora

This artist’s haven is located in a former textile factory. Tour the facility, where you’ll see evidence of its former purpose while artists do their work. You can also purchase a variety of art in the surrounding area or catch an occasional party. For those who are interested in getting more involved, artists often instruct classes. Pick a style that appeals to you and get ready to let your creativity loose.

4. El Charco del Ingenio Botanical Garden

A mile outside of central San Miguel is El Charco del Ingenio, a must-see for nature lovers. Located in an ecological preserve, the botanical garden has beautiful paths and lots of plants to admire. Enjoy the sites, ranging from cacti to waterfalls, and take in some live music at the amphitheater.

5. La Otra Cara de México (The Mask Museum)

View the city’s imaginative culture through every work of art in this museum. The main feature is a collection of around 500 ceremonial masks, but you will also find other pieces inclusing dolls and textiles. Be sure to check out this museum to experience authentic Mexican history and culture.
