In Memory: Jack Manning, Alabama-Guatemala Partners

Partners of the Americas was saddened by the death of John (Jack) Manning, longtime member and supporter of the Alabama-Guatemala Partners, who passed away February 26, 2015 at the age of 91.

Jack was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He spent 41 years with the Bell System including AT&T, Southern Bell & South Central Bell and retiring as VP Engineering & Network Planning for BellSouth.

Jack’s interest in Spanish and Latin America was first sparked in his travels to Cuba in the late 1930s. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Jack and his wife Jean took numerous trips to Guatemala, and through contacts in the Guatemalan Chapter, Jack helped a number of Guatemalan young people obtain financial support to attend college in Alabama. Jack served on the Alabama-Guatemala Partners Board of Directors and gave a great deal of time and money in support of Partners projects.

Jack is survived by wife Jean, 3 children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family generously requested that donations be made to Partners of Americas, 1424 K. St. N.W Suite 700, Washington, DC. 20005
