International Day to Eradicate Poverty

October 19, 2018

This week, Partners of the Americas observes the International Day to Eradicate Poverty. Inspired by the PartnersCampus Network’s initiative, Partners would like to highlight the many ways in which our programs, projects, and members #endpoverty.

  • Child Protection Unit: Providing entrepreneurship opportunities.

Through our EducaFuturo and Paraguay Okakuaa projects, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), we address one of the root causes of Child Labor which is closely linked with poverty: lack of income generation for families. Through our Livelihoods activities in both projects, we are able to train families on specific entrepreneurial skills and provide them with seed capital to jump-start their businesses, eliminating the need for their children to work and improving their household income.

  • Economic Development and Health Unit: Empowering rural women.

The USAID-funded Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program, implemented by Partners of the Americas, creates sustainable economic development for women and their rural communities. With a focus on agriculture, the F2F program seeks to build technical capacity while alleviating poverty through increased food security and economic opportunity.

  • Education and Global Citizenship Unit: Increasing access to study abroad.

Our higher education programs seek to provide support and resources to higher education institutions to promote study abroad programs that accept students from all income levels. Through the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund, institutions can receive grants to design programs that lower the cost of study abroad and are inclusive of students from low-resource communities.

  • Membership: Serving local communities.

Partners members organize and implement a vast array of projects and activities throughout the year to serve their local communities. Through our Education & Culture Small Project Grants, Chapter members are able to implement focused and thoughtful projects to support vulnerable populations.

Across the Western hemisphere, Partners volunteers and staff continue to work together and better their communities to end poverty.
